Gemmology Update Course

GAA, through its educational body Gem-Ed, is proud to announce a wonderful opportunity for those who have previously gained the GAA’s Diploma in Gemmology and now wish to update their skills and knowledge so they keep abreast of the ever changing world of gemmology.

All the current Gem 2 theory and practical sessions will be open to all Update students to attend as they choose; however they must complete at least four core topics from the current GAA Gem 2 theory syllabus and a number of practical classes including the identification of a series of “unknown” stones.

Students will also be required to complete a series of assignments and one special project. Final assessment will be based on the combination of end of year exam results, marked assignments, project and demonstrated practical skills.

Students will be provided with a set of the current GAA notes, a complete set of the Gem-A course notes- newly produced by the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and Gem-A’s practical handbook. Further, upon enrolling in the 2012 update course, students will be automatically registered with Gem-A. This allows them to gain access to certain online educational services and to apply to sit for Gem-A’s Diploma of Gemmology once they have been assessed as successfully completing the Update & Bridging Course. (Please note this will involve Gem-A charging an examination fee).

Upon successful completion of the Gem-A Diploma exam, students may wish to apply for membership and Fellowship of The Gemmological Association of Great Britain.

The 2012 update course will commence in February and GAA is now accepting enrolments through Gem-Ed. This course will be available as face to face classes in all teaching centers and may also be delivered as intensive and/or Flexi modes.

The course fee is $2750 and applicants must be financial members of the Gemmological Association of Australia (GAA).
