The inaugural meeting of the South Australian Branch of The Gemmological Association of Australia took place in Adelaide on 20th February 1947, the first gemmological lectures being held in the Mawson Laboratories at the University of Adelaide.

The South Australian Branch was unique in that in October 1967 the Branch became officially involved with Adult Education in the administration of the gemmology courses. This continued until 1997 when The South Australian Division became the sole provider of the GAA courses.

Adelaide’s numerous jewellers support and provide many of the students completing the gemmology courses.
