As of the 57th AGM of The Gemmological Association of Australia, that
was held at the Wrest Point Casino Hotel, Hobart, on the 17th May 2003,
the GAA has streamlined its decision making and administrative structure
by abolishing governance by a Federal Council that met once a year and
delegated the day-to-day running of the Association to an Executive
Committee that rotated from State to State in a three year cycle. This
more than 50 year old system has been replaced by a much more efficient
twelve person Federal Council that will meet face-to-face at least three
times per year and by teleconference monthly. The principal executive
officers of the Association (President, Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer)
will be elected annually from a Federal Council that will be made up of
two elected Councillors each from the States of New South Wales,
Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia, and Tasmania.
