Introduction to Coloured Gemstones
This one day course introduces a range of coloured gemstones. We will discuss identification, properties, country of origin issues and care for specific gems. Synthetic, treated and imitation gems will be discussed. We also show you how we test for identification.

COURSE OUTLINE
- Covers many popular gemstones
- Includes lecture in morning and hands-on in afternoon
- Covers gem materials and the instruments used to identify them
- Covers the difference between natural and synthetic and imitation gems
- Discusses different care for and maintenance of gemstones
- Discusses why a species of gem may come in different colours
- Includes why the same gem type may look different when examined.
